These prototyped stools are the result of a rigorous study in mass production, customization, and parametric design. Our first assignment was to create a parametric series that did not have a specific use. This series was based on the mathematical points on a cuboctohedran. Parametric design to me meant one object taking several different formations. This prototyping tool was an analog way to illustrate this concept.

The final stool was made of laminated frames CNC routed out of a single sheet of plywood. This method is optimal for mass production and variability. Using frames instead of solid sheets not only saves material but also ensures the stool is lightweight while appearing to be monolithic and heavy.
